Existing Mcards

Remember: Medical, Nursing & Pharmacy students cannot submit a photo as they will obtain an Mcard during orientation.

Has an Mcard previously been issued to you?  Please see recommendations below:

If you have any questions, please email: [email protected]

A student Mcard was issued although it has NOT expired.

Do NOT submit a photo online.

Ann Arbor campus student Mcards that are not expired are still valid University IDs. If an Mcard was issued to you and it is not expired, then this is your valid ID card. This applies to valid undergrad Mcards that have not expired. Undergraduate and graduate Mcards both simply state "Student" under the cardholders' name.  If you no longer have this Mcard, you may be subjected to a replacement card fee.

If your current student Mcard is from UM Dearborn or Flint and you will be taking classes at the Ann Arbor campus, you can submit an appropriate photo online.  You will need to turn in your current Mcard to obtain your new Mcard.

A student or other Mcard was issued but IS expired.

Submit an appropriate photo online and immediately email [email protected] using your UM email account explaining that you have submitted a photo online and will turn in your expired Mcard.

(Failure to return an expired Mcard may result in a replacement card fee.)

Your current Mcard has a campus department name on it and you WILL continue to work while taking classes.

You have the following options:

  1. Submit an appropriate photo online and immediately email [email protected] using your UM email account explaining that you have submitted a photo online and want your new Mcard to be an employee/student Mcard (or temp employee/student Mcard, if applicable). Please include your current department name.
  2. Submit an appropriate photo online and immediately email [email protected] using your UM email account explaining that you have submitted a photo online and want your new Mcard to be ONLY a student Mcard.
  3. You can do nothing and continue using your current Mcard until it expires. Most building access is based upon your card number; not by having the word "Student" appearing on the card. This option is least recommended as a few areas do visually look for "Student" and you may be denied.

NOTE: If you submit a photo and do not contact the Mcard Center (regarding #1 or #2), no new Mcard will be produced. You will have to visit a campus ID station for a new Mcard.

Your current Michigan Medicine Mcard has a department name on it and you WILL continue to work while taking classes.

Do NOT submit a photo online.

Michigan Medicine Mcards have special card technology and are not printed anywhere else other than Key & ID Office.  All new Michigan Medicine Mcards require a Michigan Medicine Mcard Request form completed by your department/clinic. Turn in this form and current Mcard to the Key & ID staff and they will produce a employee/student Mcard (or temp employee/student Mcard if applicable). This card will look like your previous Mcard except that the word "Student" will appear above the black magnetic stripe on the reverse of the card.
