Updated Tech Tools Policy No Longer Requires Verification—June 8, 2015

Dear Deans, Directors, and Department Managers:

I am writing to let you know that the university's Tech Tools Policy has been updated, effective today, June 8, 2015.

The revised policy no longer requires employees receiving a stipend for a tech tool or a university-provided tech tool to complete the online verification statement that has been available for the past few years. It is, however, recommended—but not required—that units develop a local verification process, which can be paper-based.

It was modified for a number of reasons, including relaxed Internal Revenue Service reporting requirements related to tech tools and feedback from the university community.

You can review the revised Tech Tools Policy, FAQs, and sample paper-based verification forms at: www.finance.umich.edu/techtoolpolicy.

Please feel free to forward this message to your colleagues who may benefit from this information. If you have any questions, please contact the Procurement Solutions Team at (734) 764-8212, option 2, or email techtools@umich.edu.

Thank you,

Nancy Hobbs
Interim Associate Vice President for Finance
