Effort Reporting Procedures - As-Needed Effort Certification Process

Ad hoc reporting for special circumstances, including:

  • Employee terminates employment from the university after the effort certification period.
  • A change was made to an individual's effort for a period already certified and employee has left the university.
  • Employee begins a Reduction in Force (RIF).
  • Employee begins a Leave of Absence (LOA).
  1. Follow the instructions in MyLINC to create an As-Needed Effort Certification Report. Be sure to use correct start and end dates. (https://maislinc.umich.edu/mais/pdf/HR_UAW_effortcertificationreport_QR.pdf)
    • Graduate Students
      • Start Date is the first day of the term the student is certifying (1/1/xx, 5/1/xx, or 9/1/xx).
      • End Date is the last day of the term, or the last day worked, whichever is later .
    • Regular Employees
      • Start Date is the first day of the fiscal year the employee is certifying, i.e. 7/1/xx.
      • End date is the last day of the fiscal year, or the last day worked, whichever is later .
    • If report is incorrect, unit administrator (or designee) initiates a DBE correction. Be sure to add a comment in the notes section that the change is required for effort reporting .
  2. Employee signs own Effort Certification Report and returns it to the unit administrator (or designee).
  3. Unit Administrator (or designee) sends signed Effort Certification Report for Ann Arbor and Flint campuses to the Payroll Office. U-M Dearborn reports are sent to U-M Dearborn HRAA.
